proficiency exams for incoming freshman

Providence Catholic offers proficiency exams in:

  • Algebra

  • French

  • German

  • Spanish

  • Computer Technology

Students who pass the proficiency exam(s) may elect to be placed into the second year of the course (Algebra 2 Honors, Foreign Language 2 or Computer Applications).

The proficiency exams will be given on Saturday, May 8  at 8:30 AM OR Tuesday, May 11, at 3:30 PM.  Each exam is limited to 60 minutes.  There is no fee for the exam.  These are the only times these exams will be available.

Students who have demonstrated mastery of course content in any of these areas on the exam will receive credit and be placed in the next level with the approval of the department chairperson.

Credit for the successful completion of the exam will be indicated on the student’s permanent record as a summer school course and as such will not be included in the grade point average.
