athletic facilities
Providence is part of the Chicago Catholic League
(boys) and the East Suburban Catholic Conference (girls). The
Athletic Complex includes a lighted stadium, that is surrounded
by an all-weather track. The campus has two softball diamonds
and two baseball diamonds, as well as the Gougar Road Athletic
Complex, which has two soccer fields, a baseball diamond, and a
cross-country running course. The indoor facilities include two
gymnasiums, a complete wrestling facility for the 6-time
defending
I.H.S.A. AA State Championship Wrestling team, and a fully
equipped weight room. Providence prides itself on having the
finest, most dedicated coaching staff in the state.
In the summer of 2004, the Providence Catholic
Athletic Association (PCAA) revamped Bishop Kaffer Stadium;
sporting new home bleachers and totally renovated visitor stands
(former home-side bleachers). In addition to the bleachers,
many other improvements were made to the stadium, including a
new broadcast booth, sound system and scoreboard. Also, the
Band Parents’ Club completely renovated the stadium’s concession
stand and doubled the size of the kitchen and storage areas to
better serve the hungry Celtic fans. Proceeds from the
concession stand helped to pay for new uniforms and instruments
for the band and color guard. Thanks to funding from the
Women’s Club and the PCAA, the girl’s softball varsity field was
renovated with a new backstop, dugouts and storage areas. A
renovated freshman baseball field was constructed thanks to the
fund-raising efforts of alumni and parents.
